Food Packing

Why is food packaging important?
Food packaging is necessary and pervasive, it is necessary because without packaging the health and quality of food is endangered and it is a pervasive issue because all food is packaged in some way. Packaging plays many roles in addition to storage. One of the dynamic areas of packaging is the sale of food in the competitive market.
Packing history:
The history of food preservation dates back to 5000 BC. In the coasts of the Persian Gulf, the method of crushing, salting and drying has been used. In fact, food packaging itself is a method of preservation. It is obvious that incorrect packaging of food leads to the loss of all the effort that has been spent to produce that product. Modern food packaging dates back to the early nineteenth century, when Nicholas Apert invented the can. At the beginning of the twentieth century, different materials were introduced in food packaging, such as wax compounds and oil-based compounds used in food packaging, especially during World War II. Today, different materials are used in food packaging. Hard metals such as cans and barrels, flexible metals such as aluminum and tin. Glass such as wide-mouthed glass and bottles, semi-hard and hard plastics in the form of pressable containers and bottles, flexible envelopes, food films, hard paper cartons and products. Wood-like packaging boxes. Flexible papers such as multilayers made from a combination of paper, plastic and foil. In many cases, these packages must be resistant to process operations such as sterilization, thawing, thawing of frozen food, and even final cooking. In recent years, the use of various polymers such as polyethylene or polypropylene in various forms and types of flexible or rigid packages, single-layer or multi-layer for different types of products, including dairy products, products Bakeries or even fruits and vegetables are common.
Packaging function:
Packaging plays a very important role in the food supply chain and is an integral part of both the food process and the entire food supply chain. Traditionally, food packaging is one of the ways to facilitate its distribution and also plays a role in protecting food from environmental conditions such as light, oxygen, moisture, microbes, mechanical stresses and dust. In the next steps, its application will be considered as a guide for recognizing product specifications.

Packaging plays a vital role in containing and protecting food as it moves through the supply chain to the consumer. Functions of packaging include
• protection, including preventing breakage, spoilage and contamination;
• promotion, including describing product features, ingredients and branding;
• information, including product identification, product preparation and end-of-life management;
• convenience, including preparation and portioning;
• utilisation and handling, including providing for transport and retailing; and
• waste reduction, including increasing shelf-life.
According to available statistics and information, the average cost of packaging is 10% of the cost of export goods, but up to about 10% can create added value. Packaging means a harmonious container, container and system that not only ensures the health of the desired product during the production-to-consumption process, but also strives to establish a strong, fast and low-cost communication between producer and consumer, and through The supply chain in the process of transportation, distribution, warehousing and sales will create more added value. Packaging in this definition, by having the right marketing principles, by satisfying the diverse and variable tastes and expectations of the customer, makes it possible for them to gain the benefit of the purchase.
Package design and construction play a significant role in determining the shelf life of a food product. The right select ion of packaging materials and technologies maintains product quality and freshness during distribution and storage. Materials that have traditionally been used in food packaging include glass, metals (aluminum, foils and laminates, tinplate, and tin-free steel), paper and paperboards, and plastics).
